Keyboard shortcuts¶
A handful of keystrokes make Initiative considerably faster.
If you only ever remember one of them, make it search. It isn't close.
Everywhere¶
| Action | Mac | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Open search (Command Center) | Cmd+K | Ctrl+K |
| Close a dialog or the search box | Esc | Esc |
On a touchscreen, a three-finger tap opens search.
In task tables¶
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Sort by a column | Click the column heading |
| Sort by several columns | Hold Shift and click each additional heading |
In a list of cards¶
Every tool's list — projects, files and the rest — shows as Grid, List or Tags, from its View menu. Choose Select items to pick several and act on them together.
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Select one card | Click it |
| Select a run | Click the first, then hold Shift and click the last |
| Clear a run | Untick a card, then hold Shift and click away from it |
| From the keyboard | Shift+Enter or Shift+Space extends the same way |
Tips that act like shortcuts¶
- Search instead of clicking. Press Cmd+K / Ctrl+K and start typing a project, task, or file name to jump straight there — usually quicker than the sidebar. See Search & shortcuts.
- The recent tab bar along the top works like browser tabs — click to revisit, close when done.
- Drag and drop to reorder things: tasks between Kanban columns, items in a queue, counters in a group.
When you can't find something, check the dots
A lot of actions live behind the ⋯ (more) menus on projects, tasks and files. If you're hunting for a thing you're sure exists, that's the first place to look and it's usually there.
