Getting started

This section gets you from "I have never seen this before" to "I know where things are". Read it in order, or skip straight to whatever you're stuck on. Nobody is marking it.

You don't need experience with project management software. You don't need to know what a Kanban board is, and you certainly don't need to know why it's called that. If you have ever written a shopping list, you are overqualified.

What you'll need

  • A browser. Computer, tablet, phone, whatever's nearest. There is nothing to install.
  • Either a web address or an invite link for your group's Initiative. Somebody in the group usually sends you one. If you are the one setting this up for everybody, you want the server guide instead, and our sympathies.
  • Optional: the app, if you'd like an icon on your home screen, or notifications on your phone or computer.

Nobody's set anything up yet?

Then somebody has to run it somewhere. Hosting it yourself is free and open source; a paid hosted version is on the way for people who'd rather not. See Self-host or let us host it.

The five steps

  • 1. Create your account

Sign up with an email, or your work login.

    Create an account

  • 2. Sign in

Log in, recover a forgotten password, set up the app.

    Signing in

  • 3. Take the tour

Five minutes on where everything lives.

    A quick tour

  • 4. Join your group

Accept an invite, or start a workspace of your own.

    Your first community

  • 5. Find your own corner

One list of what you owe, gathered from every group at once.

    Your space

Actually in a hurry?

If somebody sent you an invite link: click it, make your account, you're in. The link already knows which group you're joining, so there's nothing to look up and nothing you can type wrong.

Everything else on this page will still be here later. It isn't going anywhere.
